Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilise extensive experience to perform a variety of inspections of primary and secondary schools, as well as providers of initial teacher training

  • Accountable for the training and direct management of contracted Ofsted inspectors, maximise productivity through ongoing performance monitoring and review

  • Appraise and assess work completed by inspectors to ensure compliance to all set standards, provide feedback to support with performance

  • Escalated point of contact for any complaints by inspected educational establishments, collate, analyse and interpret information to conduct investigations relating to concerns, produce a reasoned report detailing investigations and conclusions

  • Due to reputation and successes in the role, selected to serve as national adviser for economics, business and enterprise, mentor for new and seconded inspectors/ HMI, whilst acting as the national point of reference for school sixth forms

  • Invited to deliver numerous presentations on a national and global basis

  • Appointed as HMI lead for Ofsted's research into the initial teacher education/ training (ITE/ITT) curriculum, which laid the foundations for the 2020 ITE inspection framework

The Salvation Army

Conductor and responsible for the musical, spiritual and organisational leadership of the band.
Away from the day job, he has been Bandmaster and conductor of Colchester Citadel Salvation Army Band since 1995 and before that was acting in the role for some time. Under his leadership and organisation, Colchester Citadel Band, of which he has been the conductor for the last 16 years, has played in Ostend in Belgium, Freiburg, Wetzlar and Aachen in Germany and Brunssum in the Netherlands. His song ‘Lullaby’ (Sing to the Lord, Children’s Voices) has been enjoyed by choirs inside and beyond the Salvation Army
